Accounting & Finance Spring Meeting set for April; rating agency outlook is focus of Feb. 13 webinar

APPA is hosting two educational opportunities for public power professionals in the fields of accounting and finance.

APPA will be hosting the General Accounting, Finance & Audit Spring Meeting April 18-19 in Washington, D.C. The meeting will include a Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) update focusing on key pronouncements; practical issues in implementing recent GASB statements; using regulatory accounting in developing rate structures; credit issues related to power supply, generating facilities, and fuel costs; and challenges for tax-exempt financing. 

The meeting is open to all employees of APPA member utilities, joint action agencies, and state and regional associations. The cost to participate is $300 for individuals registering early.

Participants in the 2013 General Accounting, Finance & Spring Meeting will have the opportunity to earn up to 13.5 continuing professional education credits (CPEs) in public accountancy. Attendees can also earn continuing education units (CEUs) and professional development hours (PDHs).

Next week, APPA will host a webinar on the "Rating Agency Outlook for Public Power." Representatives from the three major credit rating companies will discuss their outlook for public power and the electric utility industry for 2013.  Current issues that may affect the bond ratings of public power entities will be discussed.

The rating agency webinar will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Eastern time. Participants can earn 1.5 CPEs for participating. Go to for more information on the webinar or to register.
