APPA’s seasonal education institutes offer in-depth training courses for all skill levels. Institutes allow attendees to focus on a single topic or spend the week in multiple classes for more comprehensive training.
Classes are designed by instructors who have decades of industry experience and understand the specific needs of public power utilities. The Institute format also provides an excellent opportunity to network with industry peers and earn continuing education credits.

Registration Fee Discounts

  2. Save $100 when you attend more than one course or register with a colleague.

Only one of the following discounts may be taken, when applicable.

  • Participants who attend more than one course at the Institute may subtract $100 from their registration fee total.


  • Utilities that send more than one participant to the course(s) can subtract $100 from each participant’s registration fee total. Orders must be submitted at the same time.

Please note: These discounts do not apply to the Key Accounts Certificate Program, as it is already discounted.

Hotel Reservation & Cancellation Policy
All reservations require a non-refundable room deposit equal to one night room and tax that will be charged to your credit card at the time your reservations is made. Note: In the event that APPA cancels a course, this deposit will be waived.

All courses will be held in the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center. The hotel is located 13 miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Please contact the hotel for transportation options.

Registrants who cancel in writing on or before Sept. 22, 2014, are entitled to a refund of their registration fee, minus a $50 cancellation fee. Registrants who cancel after Sept. 22, will not receive a refund, but attendee substitutions will be allowed for this event only. Registrants and no-shows who do not cancel by Sept. 22 are responsible for the full registration fee and are not entitled to a refund. Cancellations must be made in writing and emailed to Registration@PublicPower.org.

Travel Arrangements
Travel arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the participants. APPA will not reimburse for changes in travel expenditures regardless of the cause, including the cancellation of a course, meeting, or workshop.
Before booking your airfare, please verify with Meghan Riley (202/467-2919 or MRiley@PublicPower.org) that the course(s) you are registering for will be held.

Confirmations will be sent via e-mail.

Name Badges
Name badges can be picked up at the APPA registration desk at the hotel starting at 8 to 8:30 a.m. on the first day of each course and must be worn by all Institute attendees. Note: Registration will be open at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 for those attending the Overhead Distributions Systems course, which starts at 8 a.m. each day.
