An investment in AMI yields so much more than faster and more accurate meter reads. Customers want fewer outages, and the analytical data collected from the AMI system enables a utility to identify areas of the distribution grid that are aging or at risk and take action before a failure. An advanced metering system also modernizes the interaction with customers, enabling such enhancements as an LCD display on the meter, the ability to adjust usage based on real-time rate data, and alerts via text messaging and social media.
